Welcome to The Fur Angels Website
The "Fur Angels" was founded in 1989 by Martha F. Hall and her beloved service/therapy dog Lakota Su. Lakota Su was the inspiration behind our name "The Fur Angels". Martha Hall (Marti) was on a therapy visit when the person she was visiting kept calling Lakota Su her fur angel. So that became our name, which fittingly describes all of our therapy dogs. We are an outreach ministry of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Lincoln Park and are solely comprised of volunteers offering compassion and unconditional love through pet therapy. We all have trained our own personal dogs to succeed in our mission. Our high standards require all of our dogs to be evaluated and temperament tested, as well as pass specific
tests known as Canine Good Citizenship (C.G.C) and also either Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dog, Mid Michigan Therapy Dogs Inc., or Alliance of Therapy Dogs certification before they can become a "Fur Angel" and earn their wings. Our group was formed with only a handful of caring people. Today we can proudly say we have grown considerably, enabling us to extend our pet therapy to more facilities and a wider range of programs, such as visiting hospice patients, nursing homes, hospitals, our motivational school reading program called, "Reading with the Angels", and educational demonstrations. We also do fundraisers for community projects such as raising funds to purchase a bulletproof vest for police dog Rocco, a member of the City of Flat Rock Canine Unit.

Please contact us if you are interested in being pre-evaluated and tested for Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dog to become a Fur Angel. We can also test for AKC's Canine Good CitizenĀ® (CGC), but this does not fully qualify you to become a Fur Angel. If you have any questions about us or would like your dog to be evaluated, please Click here for the Fur Angels contact page.
